The (MC)2 annual image contest is accepting submissions from now until Friday, December 1st. The contest is open to all graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are users of the lab, from U-M or other universities. The entry form is available below.
Results will be announced within two weeks of the deadline, prior to the holiday break.
The contest is judged by (MC)2 staff, and awards will be given in two categories: (1) TEM and (2) SEM/AFM/X-ray microscopy. Lab users are welcome to submit multiple entries for consideration in one or both categories.
Please see the following guidelines:
- Images must have been obtained in 2023 using an instrument at the center.
- Creative use of false coloring is welcomed, but we prefer that other types of artistic modifications are kept limited, in order to highlight the features of the original micrograph as acquired on the instrument.
- Submissions should include a paragraph explaining the micrograph’s larger scientific context.
- Please upload the highest quality image you can with regard to file size, bit depth, and resolution. Preferred image width is 1024 px or above and in .tif format.
First-place winners will receive a $100 Amazon gift card, and runners-up will receive a $50 gift card. All four images selected for awards will also be framed and displayed in the (MC)2 office in the future.
Participants in the contest grant (MC)2 permission to use the images in the future in various forms, such as the photo collage in the Building 22 hallway, brochures, educational materials for other users, our website or other media.
