John has over 35 years experience in electron microscopy techniques and was previously the associate director and laboratory manager of EMAL. He is currently the president of the Microscopy Society of America. He is now the Senior Director of Education and Engagement for the Michigan Center for Materials Characterization. He will be presenting introductory and advanced seminars on the wide variety of microscopy and microanalysis techniques that are available in the center.  He is also the first point of contact for both introductory and advanced application of electron back scattered diffraction.

Haiping has over 20 years of experience in the field of electron microscopy and materials characterization. Former EMAL user and a staff member for a total of 15 years, he is now Research Laboratory Specialist in the Michigan Center for Materials Characterization. He will be responsible for user training, assistance, and instrument maintenance in the Center.

Kai Sun

Associate Research Scientist

Kai has over 23 years experience in transmission electron microscopy and have been using TEM based techniques characterized almost all types of materials. He has been working in EMAL for more than 15 years as a staff member with a joint appointment in MSE as an Associate Research Scientist. Within the Center, he will be responsible for the TEMs and the XPS instrument and will assist with user training, support, and instrument maintenance, as well as new technique developments.
